Do you know your Bible?
We have a reputation for knowing and teaching the Bible, but I am afraid there is still much biblical illiteracy among us. There are people who do not know anything about the Bible at all. I want to ask you to measure yourself by three tests which are given in Hebrews 5, by which you can check yourself as to how much you know of Scripture. I am not going to ask you how far it is from Bethlehem to Jerusalem, and I do not care how many kings there were in Israel, or how many in Judah. Those are not the important questions. But here are the three things that will test you. First, can you tell the difference between right and wrong, especially when right looks wrong, and wrong looks right? Have you learned how to use Scripture so as to tell the difference? Second,...
Read MoreWhat is a promise?
What is a promise? When two young people stand at the wedding altar and promise each other, what are they doing? They are committing themselves to give of themselves to each other. A promise, basically, is a commitment to share yourself. If you give a promise to someone, you are committing something of your time, your energy, your resources to that person. If you say, “I’ll meet you at the corner of this street at this time,” you have thereby committed a certain part of yourself to that person for a certain length of time. That is what a promise is. It is a sharing of self. So, the great promises of the Bible are the efforts of God to share Himself with us. When we understand the promises, we will understand something more of the nature and the...
Read MoreThe purpose of revelation
The purpose of revelation is nothing less than the transformation of human lives. Your contact with the Bible should be changing you. If it isn’t, then something is drastically wrong with the way you are going about it, for this is a living book with a living message which, when it touches human life, begins to transform it and make it over. Now, it takes the entire book to do the whole job, and not flitting from single verse to singe verse like a butterfly and this is why it important that we read through the entire Bible – in order that we might see what it has to say and how it says it…
Read MorePratley Putty, Bread and God’s indwelling Spirit
We all know about Pratley Putty, that marvelous glue that is the only South African invention that has been to the Moon! In 1969 the putty was used to hold bits of the Apollo 11 mission’s Eagle landing craft together. Pratley Putty was also used to stop the cracking in one of the main supports of the Golden Gate Bridge spanning San Francisco Bay in California. George Pratley invented his famous sticky stuff in the 1960s while looking for a glue that would hold components in an electrical box. Since then hundreds of tons of Pratley Putty have been exported all over the world and it has become a household name world-wide! Pratley Putty is made of two components, the “putty” and the “catalyst”. Separate, the two remain soft and...
Moenie jou Bybel lees by die huis.
Read MoreMeaning of Easter
Oom Sakkie Pieters het vir sommige van ons by die gemeente dié e-pos gestuur. Ek voel dis belangrik genoeg om op die “website” te sit vir ons stigting oor die Paastydperk! Baie Dankie Oom Sakkie! With Easter just around the corner maybe now is a good time to reflect on the fact that Easter is not all about bunnies and Easter eggs. May you all be blessed this Easter in remembering what HE did for us. God Bless you. THE (SCIENTIFIC) DEATH OF JESUS At the age of 33, Jesus was condemned to the death penalty. At the time crucifixion was the “worst” death. Only the worst criminals are condemned to be crucified. Yet it was even more dreadful forJesus, unlike other criminals condemned to death by crucifixion Jesus was to be nailed to the cross by...
